Low water temperature in diesel generator sets can harm the unit.

With the recent increase in temperature, many users are becoming particularly concerned about the water temperature during operation of their diesel generator sets. Excessively high temperatures can cause serious damage to diesel generator sets. Therefore, users should pay special attention to the heat dissipation and cooling of the generator set. The lower the water temperature, the better. Diesel generator water temperature requirements are clearly defined. The ambient temperature for normal generator operation must not exceed 50°C, and the cooling water temperature should be maintained between 75°C and 90°C, with a maximum temperature not exceeding 95°C.

Impacts of Low Water Temperature in Diesel Generator Sets

1. Low water temperature can lead to poor diesel combustion in the generator cylinder, poor fuel atomization, prolonged combustion time after a fire, and unstable engine operation. This can accelerate damage to components such as crankshaft bearings and piston rings, reducing the unit's power and economy.

2. Water vapor generated by combustion easily condenses on the cylinder walls, causing metal corrosion.

3. Burning diesel can dilute the engine oil, worsening lubrication conditions.

4. Incomplete fuel combustion forms colloids, causing piston rings to become stuck in their grooves and valves to become stuck, resulting in lower cylinder pressure at the end of compression.

5. Excessively low water and oil temperatures can cause the oil to thicken and become less fluid, reducing the oil pump's oil supply. This can lead to insufficient oil supply to the generator set and reduce crankshaft bearing clearance, resulting in poor lubrication.

Diesel generators should maintain coolant temperatures within a certain range when operating in different seasons. In winter, temperatures are lower, and both the ambient and coolant temperatures around the diesel generator are relatively low. Therefore, the coolant temperature in the diesel generator rises more slowly. When a diesel engine operates at maximum power, the coolant temperature should be around 80°C. When operating a diesel generator in winter, it is best to maintain a water temperature around 80°C when operating under load. In summer, temperatures are higher and, during this scorching season, the coolant temperature in the diesel generator rises rapidly. If the water temperature drops to around 100°C, wear problems are more likely to occur.
